Ten Ways to Prevent Obesity in our Families

Children are our future and we as parents need to help them attain their highest potential. If we want to have a strong and healthy future.

Today’s diet is high in the simple carbohydrates; sugar and fat. Soft drinks, cakes, candy, and junk food are constantly bombarding our families,it seems to be their daily diet.

Statistics show that heart disease is showing up at a younger age. They are discovering clogged arteries in children as young as 12 years old. Diabetes is reaching epidemic proportions, asthma is becoming a common occurance. People are beginning to look at these as normal. Well it is far from normal.

A major contibuting factor in these diseases is obesity. So what is a parent to do; the first thing we must do is to educate ourselves.

Here are 10 Ways to Prevent Obesity

1/ Be an example

Children learn from their parents, the first thing you as a parent must do is to show your children that you are willing to change.

2/ Do a Kitchen Clean-up

Get rid of all foods that have refined flour, or sugar in them, and replace with whole foods such as whole grains, whole sugars, eg. raw sugar, honey, or stevia, and foods with as little chemical additives as possible.

3/ Replace soft drinks, and highly sugared snacks, with healthy alternatives. Be creative. Limit sugar intake to 10% of your daily diet.

4/ Limit your dietary fat intake to less than 30% of your total calories, saturated fat should be less than 10%. Avoid all trans fatty acids, such as hydrogenated fats.

5/ Exercise, exercise. It doesn’t matter what you do. Be it team sports, walking, running, tennis or just getting on the trampoline with your kids. Just get your body moving.

6/ Consume at least five daily servings of fresh raw fruits and vegetables, especially dark orange or green vegetables and citrus fruits daily. Six servings of whole grains and at least 3-4 servings of calcium-rich foods, and make sure you get plenty of dietary fibre.

7/ Try to have 6 small nutrient-dense meals a day, rather than 3 large meals. Do not eat after 8pm. Avoid repeated unsuccessful attempts at weight loss (crash dieting).

8/ Included a food supplement, high in vitamins and minerals.

9/ Consume at least 2000 calories of high-nutrient foods. Select low-nutrient foods periodically, maybe once a week, as a sinday. But your daily diet should consist of high quality foods.

10/ Drink at least six 8oz glasses of pure, filtered water a day. Water is the best cleanser.

If you follow this advice, you will not only be preventing obesity but will also; improve resistance to colds and infection, reduce risk of developing heart disease, cancer, diabetes, high blood pressure, and osteoporosis, increased resistance to stress, maintain a feeling of wellbeing, help prevent premature aging, increased energy to enjoy life and improve emotional and mental health.

JUICING IS KEY TO A HEALTHIER YOU

Getting into the juicing habit is one of the best things you can do for your overall health says the “Godfather of Fitness, Jack LaLanne.

Now 92 years young, LaLanne says that nutritious fresh foods are the key to longevity and vitality, stating simply “cooking kills.” He is credited with premiering the first modern health spa in America in 1936 and brought the fitness movement to television in 1951 with a daily exercise program. “No wonder people today are fat and sick when you read the labels and all the artificial additives in the processed foods they are eating. I just bought a new Corvette, but do you think it would run without the right fuel? Putting the right fuel into your body works just the same. And raw fruits and vegetables that are juiced for 30 seconds will help your body feel great.”

LaLanne and wife Elaine created their own Power Juicer machine (www.jacklalanne.com) and special juicing cookbook, “Secrets of Power Juicing”. Their juice cocktails including such fresh ingredients as carrots, beets, watercress, pineapple, grapefruit, apples, strawberries and passionfruit. LaLanne recommends including the peels and seeds when juicing “because that’s where a lot of the nutrients are.” He also suggests saving the expelled pulp to add nutrition to other recipes including meatloaf, vegan cookies, soups and sauces.

Juicing can also be helpful in weight loss and LaLanne recommends “juicing three times a day if you’re trying to lose weight or using freshly squeeze juice as a complete meal substitute for at least one meal daily.”

Among the fitness guru’s own favorite power foods are eggs whites (he calls them “a great source of protein”), carrots (“very high in anti-oxidants”) and apples (“good for fiber”).

“Women especially spend so much money on hairdos and facials, nips and tucks, when what they really need is to realize that the food you eat today is walking and talking tomorrow.”

Some of his favorite juicing creations include a zesty “South of the Border” beverage featuring red bell peppers, celery, lime, cilantro and apples; an “Energy Boost” of carrots, celery, beets, parsley, lettuce, watercress, spinach and tomato; a “Raspberry Rush” blending raspberries, oranges and lime; “The Rainbow Surprise” made with celery, carrots, cucumbers, squash, zucchini and apples; and the ever-popular “Love Potion” that combined peaches, grapes, strawberries and apples.

“The great thing about getting in to the juicing habit,” says LaLanne, “is that it benefits the most important person in the world – YOU!”

Amazing Fat Burning Tips to Help You Go From Fat to Flat Belly

Going from a fat belly to a flat belly can be easier when you use tricks that help increase your metabolism. You don’t have to be born with a fast metabolism to take advantage, either. Here are some fat burning tips to help you achieve your flat belly goals.

Tip Number One – Avoid junk food like the plague. Nothing packs the fat on faster than eating junk foods and fast foods. If you want a hamburger, make it yourself. This will help you control the portion, skip the bun or make it whole grain, and add plenty of veggies. At the same time you won’t be tempted by the smell of fat fries.

Tip Number Two – Eat plenty of fresh, raw fruits and veggies. These fat burning foods will help raise your metabolism. Start by eating fruits in the morning before other foods. This is when your liver is best at burning fat and fresh fruits help your liver do this even better.

Start your later meals with a green, raw salad. This gets your digestion revved up to digest the rest of the food. A stronger digestion means a faster metabolism, and a faster metabolism burns more fat.

Tip Number Three – Eat more protein. Many times we don’t eat enough protein to lose fat. On the other hand, many people eat too much at once, which can pack on the pounds. Avoid this problem by eating smaller portions 5-6 times, spread throughout the day. To find the right portion for your body, keep the size of the serving about the same size as your palm.

Don’t miss out on the fat burning ability of this technique. Your whole body is made of protein, including muscle which also helps burn fat. Protein also helps your liver detoxify, which frees it up and enhances its fat burning ability!

Lean proteins to choose from include turkey, chicken, lean beef, tempeh, fish, almonds, garbanzo beans and eggs. Healthy fish can include salmon, halibut, tuna and tilapia.

Tip Number Four – Flush away your belly fat by drinking 6-8 glasses of cold water. Cold water flushes fatty toxins while naturally raising metabolism at the same time. Be sure to spread these throughout your day.

Tip Number Five – Take your EFA’s. These are essential fatty acids, known as the Omega-3′s and Omega-6′s, that your body needs to survive. These kinds of nutrients are essential for you heart, your hair, your brain, your skin, your joints, and may help keep your mood elevated even during times of stress. You can satisfy cravings for unhealthy fat foods by eating foods with healthy fats, or EFA’s. Most importantly, these healthy fats help your body carry out unhealthy, toxic fat that can accumulate around your mid-section.

Foods that will supply these important nutrients include walnuts, salmon, halibut, tilapia, tuna, hemp seeds, flax seeds, olive oil, avocadoes, and coconut oil. For an extra boost, an Essential Fatty Acid supplement can be found at your local health food store.

Tip Number Six – Exercise first thing in the morning, before you eat. If you eat first, your body might burn the calories from the food you just ate. If you eat on an empty stomach, your body is forced to burn the stored fat, which is what it is there for. Be sure to drink your water first!

Tip Number Seven – Here’s another exercise tip… jump on a rebounder or mini trampoline. Rebounding exercise is done on a mini trampoline designed to safely use every day. This type of exercise will help increase circulation of your blood and lymph, both which can help carry out fat trapping toxins.

To make this exercise work even better, jump for two minutes at a time, anywhere from 5-10 times each day. Studies show that the entire lymphatic system can start moving toxins, including toxic fat, out of the entire body in just two minutes.

Use some or all of these fat burning tips to reach your goals – but of course the more you do the sooner you lose fat. All of these fat burning techniques can help you lose weight, rid your body of unhealthy and even dangerous fat, and get your belly from fat to flat in just weeks.
