Ten Ways to Prevent Obesity in our Families

Children are our future and we as parents need to help them attain their highest potential. If we want to have a strong and healthy future.

Today’s diet is high in the simple carbohydrates; sugar and fat. Soft drinks, cakes, candy, and junk food are constantly bombarding our families,it seems to be their daily diet.

Statistics show that heart disease is showing up at a younger age. They are discovering clogged arteries in children as young as 12 years old. Diabetes is reaching epidemic proportions, asthma is becoming a common occurance. People are beginning to look at these as normal. Well it is far from normal.

A major contibuting factor in these diseases is obesity. So what is a parent to do; the first thing we must do is to educate ourselves.

Here are 10 Ways to Prevent Obesity

1/ Be an example

Children learn from their parents, the first thing you as a parent must do is to show your children that you are willing to change.

2/ Do a Kitchen Clean-up

Get rid of all foods that have refined flour, or sugar in them, and replace with whole foods such as whole grains, whole sugars, eg. raw sugar, honey, or stevia, and foods with as little chemical additives as possible.

3/ Replace soft drinks, and highly sugared snacks, with healthy alternatives. Be creative. Limit sugar intake to 10% of your daily diet.

4/ Limit your dietary fat intake to less than 30% of your total calories, saturated fat should be less than 10%. Avoid all trans fatty acids, such as hydrogenated fats.

5/ Exercise, exercise. It doesn’t matter what you do. Be it team sports, walking, running, tennis or just getting on the trampoline with your kids. Just get your body moving.

6/ Consume at least five daily servings of fresh raw fruits and vegetables, especially dark orange or green vegetables and citrus fruits daily. Six servings of whole grains and at least 3-4 servings of calcium-rich foods, and make sure you get plenty of dietary fibre.

7/ Try to have 6 small nutrient-dense meals a day, rather than 3 large meals. Do not eat after 8pm. Avoid repeated unsuccessful attempts at weight loss (crash dieting).

8/ Included a food supplement, high in vitamins and minerals.

9/ Consume at least 2000 calories of high-nutrient foods. Select low-nutrient foods periodically, maybe once a week, as a sinday. But your daily diet should consist of high quality foods.

10/ Drink at least six 8oz glasses of pure, filtered water a day. Water is the best cleanser.

If you follow this advice, you will not only be preventing obesity but will also; improve resistance to colds and infection, reduce risk of developing heart disease, cancer, diabetes, high blood pressure, and osteoporosis, increased resistance to stress, maintain a feeling of wellbeing, help prevent premature aging, increased energy to enjoy life and improve emotional and mental health.

Fois gras. (Fat liver...)."">

The Greatest Diet plan

Loosing weight is a growing problem in our society. The amount of money spent on diet supplements per year is estimated at 40-100 billion dollars annualy.1 The only way to keep the diet supplement market growing is either: Making sure that more people need to lose weight or making sure that those who are not at an ideal weight never reach it. With that said and done, I will list seven habits that will change your life for ever. These habits will make you lose more weight faster and be healthier than any amount of weight loss supplements.

1 Eat every 2-3 hours, no excuses. You should eat among 5-8 meals per day.

2.Eat lean protein with each meal.

3.Eat vegetables and/or fruits with each meal.

4.Avoid breads and pasta’s, ensure that your carbohydrate intake comes from fruits and vegetables.

5.Ensure that 25-35% of your calorie intake comes from fat, with your fat intake split equally among saturates (e.g. Animal fat), monosaturates (e.g., olive oil), and polyunsaturated (e.g. flax oil, salmon oil)

6.Drink only non-calorie containing beverages, the best choices being water and green teas,

7.Eat mostly whole foods.2

	Exercising is very important in weight loss. Specifically for weight loss, cardiovascular training is highly important. When the average person thinks of cardio, they imagine continual jogging on a treadmill. I am here to inform you that there is a better way. Interval training has been proven to be more effective to help you achieve your goals than this continuous motion running.3 Interval training consists of running at a top speed for a desired amount of time followed by my a slower pace jog or walk. Then you continue the cycle. An example of an interval regime could be as follow;

2 minutes at speed 5

1 minute at speed 10

2 minutes at speed 5

1 minute at speed 10

Continue doing cycles of high to low speeds until you have met your desired time or number of intervals.

Lastly, if you’re going to lose weight and keep the weight off, you need a weight training routine as well. Weightlifting is important so you can build muscles which not only make you look better, but also increase your metabolism, which intern make it easier to lose weight. Since everybody is at different levels of strength, you cannot give a generic routine to everybody. All the advise I can give you is to seek additional information through websites, talk to a personal trainer, or find books on the subject. I will tell you that for weight loss, you want to keep the number of repitition per set relatively high.

Eating a diet rich in fruit, vegetables, whole grains, legumes, fish and poultry can help you to live longer. Eating a diet poor in nutrition, high in fat, sugar, salt and remiss of vitamins can cause you to die earlier than expected due to heart disease, cancer, poor health, and a multitude of health related problems.

A recent study by Harvard University found that a diet rich in fruit, veggies, whole grains, legumes, fish and poultry could help you live longer. The University found that the women in the study were 17 percent less likely to die during the 18-year study period. And they also found that the women were 28 percent less likely to die of heart disease or stroke by following this diet.

The study proves that the foods you eat can help you live longer or they can cause, you to die young. A diet with plenty of red meats lacking in fruits and vegetables is known to cause women and men to develop heart disease, cancer and other health related problems.

Eating a diet rich in healthy foods can increase the blood flow, decrease the risk of cancer and heart disease and keep your bones and body moving risk free for years to come. Healthy food creates energy in your body, and keeps everything in proper working order. By eating the right foods, you can live longer and you can help your body keep from aging faster than it should.

Did you know that you could eat chocolate to aid in your quest to live a long, healthy life? But it has be the right kind of chocolate, not just any kind. Dark Chocolate that has 70 percent or more cocoa in it, and no more than 5 percent sugar grams, has many healthful antioxidants contained its dark rich chewy goodness. It actually has twice the amount of antioxidants than red wine, and three times more than green tea. Dark chocolate increases dopamine levels in your body and it has healthy flavonoids that keep your arteries clear reducing blood pressure.

Berries pack a powerful punch of nutrient action that can help you live longer. Blueberries are some of the richest containing vitamin-fortified berries in the world. They are actually called the anti- aging berry because they help to improve heart function, boost the immune system and stimulate the brain as well as help to fight cancer. Blueberries are rich in antioxidants such as vitamins a and c.

Acai berries are even more powerful than blueberries because they have two times the disease fighting antioxidant power that blueberries carry under that blue skin. Acai berries add to your overall energy level, help to regulate cholesterol levels, and improve circulation. You can have acai berries in many forms such as; tea, juice, and powder. You can also drink several beneficial green tea that is loaded with antioxidants with vitamins such as A, C and E. But, eating these berries is actually better for you.

Eating a diet rich in healthy nuts will expand your lifeline also. Almonds are the most nutritious nuts of all. They help to lower cholesterol, regulate blood pressure, and prevent osteoporosis. Almonds also will lower the risk of cancer, diabetes, and even stave off Alzheimer’s for years to come. Walnuts are also one of the best nuts to consume, because they contain a great deal of protein. Walnuts also have high amounts of omega-3 fatty acids that help fight heart disease.

Foods to avoid in your quest for longevity are a lot of red meat, high fat foods, high sugar foods, processed foods, and high salt foods. Natural foods are the best without all those cancer-causing chemicals found within. Stock your refrigerator with fruits and veggies and plenty of fish and healthy water to live a long and healthy life.

<img src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4051/4468467834_1395d9c9fe_m.jpg" alt="Gras. Fois gras. (Fat liver...)."">

Living to the ripe old age of 100 years old is something that many of us dream of accomplishing. This dream can become a reality, when we take the time to really think of how we nourish our bodies. By maintaining a healthy lifestyle and really thinking about our daily activities, all of us can live a longer life. 100 years seems like a long time, but in all reality, time is something that passes by rather quickly.

We all know that we should watch our fat intake, but do we? Many of us know what we should and should not eat, but choose to not practice what we preach. By using olive oil when we fry our foods, we can lower our cholesterol levels, therefore; lowering our risk of heart disease. When we opt to eat in restaurants, we do not have control over the types of oils that are used when it comes to frying food. Therefore, opting to eat at home is a much wiser choice. When we eat at home, we have control over the amount of fat we take in, as well as portion size. How many times have you ordered a double stacked hamburger at a restaurant and ordered the “large” size and eaten the whole thing? Chances are, you have.

About one in three adults in our country have problems with high blood pressure, and many do not even know their blood pressure is off of the charts! High blood pressure can lead to strokes, heart disease, and even kidney failure. By reducing the amount of salt in our diets, we can reduce the risks of these debilitating diseases. By choosing herbs and spices, we can flavor our foods without a ton of sodium that our bodies do not need.

Striving to eat five servings of fruits and vegetables is something that many of us struggle with, but in all reality, we need to make sure we are enjoying these great antioxidants on a daily basis. Some people argue that it is difficult to take in these vital vitamins in their daily diets, but how can they afford not to? Again, by eating at home and controlling what is put on our plates will help all of us in achieving this goal. Five a day is something that our hearts, lungs, and muscles will all benefit from. A great way to take in our first serving for the day is to enjoy a healthy topping of blueberries on top of a bowl of oatmeal! Blueberries are known for their ability keep our vision in tip top shape, as well as keeping our memory intact.

By eating healthy and taking inventory as to what we are putting in our bodies on a daily basis, we put ourselves closer to the ripe young age of 100! A healthy lifestyle can lead to a much longer life. This whole concept of healthy eating sounds rather complex; but once we understand the importance of leading a healthy lifestyle it all becomes a daily routine. By blending exercise with our healthy eating habits, we will live long healthy lives!

So, what is on the table for supper? How about indluging in a flaky, baked dark fleshed fish? This fish is home to Omega-3 fatty acids. Omega-3 contains fish oil and it greatly reduces our cholesterol levels, keeps our blood from clotting excessively, as well as giving our bodies protein. By thinking about what we are putting in our bodies, we will live longer and lead a healthy lifestyle.
