JUICING IS KEY TO A HEALTHIER YOU

Getting into the juicing habit is one of the best things you can do for your overall health says the “Godfather of Fitness, Jack LaLanne.

Now 92 years young, LaLanne says that nutritious fresh foods are the key to longevity and vitality, stating simply “cooking kills.” He is credited with premiering the first modern health spa in America in 1936 and brought the fitness movement to television in 1951 with a daily exercise program. “No wonder people today are fat and sick when you read the labels and all the artificial additives in the processed foods they are eating. I just bought a new Corvette, but do you think it would run without the right fuel? Putting the right fuel into your body works just the same. And raw fruits and vegetables that are juiced for 30 seconds will help your body feel great.”

LaLanne and wife Elaine created their own Power Juicer machine (www.jacklalanne.com) and special juicing cookbook, “Secrets of Power Juicing”. Their juice cocktails including such fresh ingredients as carrots, beets, watercress, pineapple, grapefruit, apples, strawberries and passionfruit. LaLanne recommends including the peels and seeds when juicing “because that’s where a lot of the nutrients are.” He also suggests saving the expelled pulp to add nutrition to other recipes including meatloaf, vegan cookies, soups and sauces.

Juicing can also be helpful in weight loss and LaLanne recommends “juicing three times a day if you’re trying to lose weight or using freshly squeeze juice as a complete meal substitute for at least one meal daily.”

Among the fitness guru’s own favorite power foods are eggs whites (he calls them “a great source of protein”), carrots (“very high in anti-oxidants”) and apples (“good for fiber”).

“Women especially spend so much money on hairdos and facials, nips and tucks, when what they really need is to realize that the food you eat today is walking and talking tomorrow.”

Some of his favorite juicing creations include a zesty “South of the Border” beverage featuring red bell peppers, celery, lime, cilantro and apples; an “Energy Boost” of carrots, celery, beets, parsley, lettuce, watercress, spinach and tomato; a “Raspberry Rush” blending raspberries, oranges and lime; “The Rainbow Surprise” made with celery, carrots, cucumbers, squash, zucchini and apples; and the ever-popular “Love Potion” that combined peaches, grapes, strawberries and apples.

“The great thing about getting in to the juicing habit,” says LaLanne, “is that it benefits the most important person in the world – YOU!”

Let’s begin by identifying the main reasons why a person stops, or is inconsistent soon after beginning an exercise program or diet.

Its been my experience that a person can lose motivation if theyre not seeing quick results, or enjoying themselves while taking action to lose weight. Also, if the new way of living is inconvenient or time consuming then that certainly doesnt help either. Highly emotional situations can cause you to feel an urge to resort back to an old and unproductive behavior that brought you temporary pleasure before and out of the painful situation. So, if this behavior allowed you to feel relieved and satisfied in the past then there’s a strong chance that you’ll behave the same way in the future when reacting to a similar feeling!

For example, lets say youre caught in a traffic jam and youre now going to be late for an appointment. Due to the familiar stress you suddenly have an urge for a cigarette, knowing full well that you vowed to stay away from them, for good. Then, you see the driver next to you with one in his hand, so you roll down your window and ask for one. All of a sudden youre back to your old, unhealthy habit of smoking!

Instead, couldnt you have reached for a stick of bubble gum or a squeeze ball? Wouldnt that be a healthier habit to form? Its up to you for what you reach for, yet I encourage you to go for the healthier alternative since you wont sabotage your fitness and health goals. Realize that its important to replace the unhealthy habit with the healthy, since you must have an alternative habit to preoccupy yourself with.

Question 1: What are 4 unhealthy remedies such as smoking, drinking, chips, pop, donuts etc., that you reach for when youre tempted or have an urge as a result of any stressful situation. Underneath your response, state the reason as to why you subject yourself to each unhealthy remedy. Again, think of highly emotional situations that usually trigger a negative feeling. Lastly, identify the painful consequence of using that remedy instead of a healthier alternative.

An example of a unhealthy remedy: A bag of chips.

The reason you reach for that unhealthy remedy:

After a stressful day at work, I’m often tempted and then make the decision to reach for a bag of chips.

Painful consequence of using that unhealthy remedy: Since Ive developed the habit of reaching for a bag of chips for over a year now after stressful days at work, Ive been feeling bloated and have put on more body fat as a result.

Since it may be overly difficult to interpret the stressful situations in a positive light and feel great as a result, it would be wise to choose a healthier remedy in exchange to comfort yourself in the short-term.

The pleasurable benefits of using this remedy: For using this healthy remedy instead of reaching for chips, I wont feel as bloated afterwards and will be taking in less calories and fat, while still satisfying my body. It wont take long to drop a few pounds of body fat due to this change!

At this point in time a bag of chips might seem to be more satisfying to you than some veggie sticks and yogurt. The short-term pleasure from eating the chips isnt worth the long-term painful consequence though, is it? As you keep the above in mind, you’ll begin to associate more pain to continuing on with the unhealthy remedy due to the way it causes you to look and feel.

In return, youll associate more pleasure to the healthy remedy, which in this case is the veggie sticks and yogurt. Youll feel good afterwards instead of feeling bloated and will have the peace of mind knowing that youve done something really good for your body and overall health! Those veggie sticks and yogurt taste better already, don’t they? Remember that you do have that 1 day off every week when you can eat those sugary and fatty foods!

What else can you do to improve your chances of adhering to a workout and nutrition program like No FAT Lies: The Absolute TRUTH on How to Lose Stubborn Fat for Life on a regular basis? How about conditioning your mind with a positive and healthy affirmation!

An affirmation is a statement that you hold close to yourself and repeat on a regular basis. Its a positive reminder as to why youve decided to commit yourself to this new lifestyle. Im looking forward to gaining more energy, fitting into my good pants again and also inspiring others to change the way they look and feel in a positive way!

The power of the spoken word is great! We talk ourselves into feeling certain emotions on a regular basis so why not talk ourselves into feeling energized and motivated as often as we can?

Moving along, I dont know of anyone who doesn’t look forward to a pleasurable outcome. Waking up can be a difficult task it you refuse to get excited about working towards anything.

Think back to a performance that you worked hard to excel at since you knew that the spotlight would be on you in the near future. Do you remember a possession that you once desired, which gave you a new reason to save money? Would you say that this upcoming performance and possession increased your motivation towards taking the small but consistent steps of action that were needed for you to reach those goals?

You bet!

So, if youd like to increase your motivation towards becoming healthier and fit then it would be wise to have something else to look forward to. How about a special event where many friends and family will witness your new body? Wouldnt you like to wear a new designer outfit thats worthy of displaying your upcoming masterpeice?

Its always nice to get rewarded for your accomplishments, isnt it?

Youre almost there! Lastly, were going to uncover a very important yet often unnoticed area of your life. It can literally make or break your success. The key word is called ‘association’.

Association is incredibly powerful and its up to you for creating your own empowering network of associates. We dont have a choice about who our familys going to be, but we can choose our friends and acquaintances. Its safe to say that a little bit of them rubs off on you, and you to them. Please be aware that you may have some associates that will be pulling for you and others who will be pulling against you instead!

Have you ever heard of the old saying, Misery loves company? The last thing that some people want is a friend beginning to change something about themselves in a positive way. The more that person changes the less the other person can relate to him or her and due to that they can pull apart. Im not saying that you have associates like that in your life, yet I just want you to be aware of this since sometimes even people who are close to you can try to sabotage your efforts!

For example, a group of friends are going out to eat at a favorite restaurant. One of them whose name is Sandy has just started to improve her eating habits, while also exercising on a consistent basis. All was fine until it came time to order the meals. The waiter took the orders from around the table as Sandy looked up with anxiety. She heard, Ill have the fried calamari with extra dip and Ill take the sirloin steak with French fries. Then the waiter asks what it is that Sandy would like to eat and she gulped, Tuna salad with a glass of water! Her friends looked at her in disbelief and then she needed to become defensive in order to back up her new and healthy lifestyle change. Lets not even get into what happened at dessert!

The fact of the matter is this… people change and its important to be aware of this and to be firm in your beliefs. Try to spend more time around people who will support and encourage you while spending less time around those who bring you down.
